Maewo, is an island of Penama province in Vanuatu, more than a 100 km to the east of Espiritu Santo. It is around 47 km long, and 6 km wide, with a total land area of 269 km². Its highest point is around 795 m above sea level. The island had a population of more than 3,500 people. Maewo is an island in the country that receives the highest rainfall  more than 2500 mm per year. The island is covered in green, lush vegetation. Because of the heavy rainfall  there are plentiful fresh water and waterfalls. There are also hot springs towards the centre of the island.
 
Maewo is also popular  for its water taro, it kava stone grinder and it unique red mats. It has a Lake call “Lake Vui” who was listed under the world’s most dangerous volcanoes because of its disastrous likely to cause whenever there is an eruption. It has a very strong and unique culture.

There are accommodations and activities that tourists can experience on the island.
 
Getting here is by plane and it has one airport and Air Vanuatu fly’s in 2 to 3 times a week. It also has good anchorages that small cargo boats call in every week. Asanvari Bay towards the south of the island is one of the best anchorages for yachts to stop on their way up north or to the south while exploring Vanuatu.
